George Michael Dies at 53
What can I say…yet another star has left us in 2016. George Michael was a mega star during the 80’s & 90’s Pop Era. George Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou on June 25, 1963 and died from a suspected heart attack at his home in Goring in Oxfordshire, England December 25, 2016.
George Michael was a British singer / songwriter and producer. He rose to Pop fame in the early 80’s as co-member of the now famous duo WHAM, selling over 25 million albums worldwide from 1982 – 1986 and in 1985, WHAM became the first western pop group to visit China.
George Michael went solo after his split from WHAM co member, Andrew Ridgeley in 1986 and pursued a Solo Career. In 1987 his debut album ‘Faith’ sold more than 20 million copies. He released a total of six albums during his career as a Solo Artist.
He was planning a re-issue of “Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1,” in 2017 which was to be paired with a documentary, “Freedom,” that explores his musical, personal and legal struggles throughout his career, but sadly due to this tragic event of his death, these plans may never see the light of day.
He was always an inspiration to me as a singer and songwriter, and also as an individual who wasn’t afraid to live his life.
But alas, he is another true music legend that will deeply be missed, but will never be forgotten!.
